Mousa Al-Reza Haji-Baglu, head of the Supreme Council of Provinces, stated on Friday regarding the status of holding elections for Islamic councils of cities and villages: In the current situation, maintaining national cohesion and unity as well as managerial stability in the country should be a priority. He believes that proposing different dates for the elections creates uncertainty for urban and rural managers.

The Necessity of Simultaneous Elections

Haji-Baglu further referred to the legal process of extending the activities of the sixth council and said: The Supreme Council of Provinces had previously submitted a proposal to the Parliament in 1403. Our suggestion is to hold the elections for the Islamic councils of cities and villages simultaneously with the presidential elections.

He also referred to the postponement of council elections due to the country's wartime conditions and said: After the change in the country's situation, the Supreme National Security Council has made decisions regarding the timing of the elections. According to this council's resolution, elections must be held no later than two months after the official end of the war, and this resolution is still the basis for determining the election date.

Criticism of Announcing Unofficial Dates

The head of the Supreme Council of Provinces criticized the announcement of various dates for the elections by some individuals and urged them to refrain from making statements that lack legal basis and official communication. Haji-Baglu emphasized: Such remarks can affect public opinion and the managerial stability of the country and may even reduce the motivation to serve in urban and rural management.

He noted: Some individuals should not confuse their position with that of the legislator or the authority determining the election date. Election officials are obliged to implement the law and the decisions of legal authorities, and whenever an official decision regarding the elections is announced, all institutions will be required to implement it.

In conclusion, Haji-Baglu addressed the members of the Islamic councils, mayors, and village heads, emphasizing that Islamic councils of cities and villages, mayors, and village heads must continue their service and jihad-like work with strength and not be influenced by unofficial remarks regarding the timing of the elections.

According to the resolution of the Supreme National Security Council, the council elections, which were previously scheduled for May 1, 1405, have been postponed, and their holding is anticipated to be no later than two months after the official end of the war. Additionally, the start of the seventh term will be no later than 45 days after the elections.
