Mohammad Nakhodi experienced one of the most unique championship paths at the Nagoya Asian Games. The experienced Iranian wrestler, who has been competing in the 79 kg weight category for years and is always considered a contender in world competitions, this time stepped onto the mat in the 86 kg weight category and shone to win the gold medal at the Asian Games; a gold that holds special technical and credit value given his specialized weight.
New Challenges and Returning to Specialized Weight
Nakhodi wrestled under different conditions to achieve this medal compared to his usual competitions. He, who has been among the best in the 79 kg weight category in the world for years, has shown that he also has the ability to compete at a higher level. Now, his main challenge is returning to his specialized weight and participating in the World Championship; a field where he has been striving to reach the highest position for years.

This year, Nakhodi is representing Iran in the 79 kg weight category for the sixth consecutive year and is heading to the World Championships in Kazakhstan. He will once again face a group of prominent contenders in this weight. In previous years, he has been on the world podium, but he has yet to win a gold medal, and this goal remains in his mind.
Tough Competitions and Stiff Rivals
Among Nakhodi's rivals, Ismail Khaniyev, the representative from Russia, is one of the notable figures. This year, he was selected as the top contender after defeating world champion Ahmad Osmanov in the Russian national competitions and, after winning the youth world championship, he succeeded in joining the senior national team of Russia.
Keyvan Ghareh-Daghi, an Iranian-born wrestler on the Japanese national team, is also another important rival in this weight. He has a record of winning the Asian Championship and being the runner-up in the youth world championships, and his presence could make the competition in this weight more exciting. Additionally, Mohammad Habib Kadi-Magomedov from Belarus, an Olympic silver medalist, has returned to the 79 kg weight category after an unsuccessful experience in the 86 kg to try his luck again.
The gold medal from Nagoya can serve as a mental and technical support for Nakhodi on the eve of the World Championships in Kazakhstan. This time, he steps onto the mat not as the champion of a higher weight, but as one of the most experienced contenders in his specialized weight; a wrestler who has repeatedly proven his ability to reach the top ranks in the world and now has the opportunity to strive for a bigger goal: to turn past experiences and world medals into the gold that he is still waiting for.
The World Championships in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling for seniors will be held from November 2 to 10 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
