Mohammad Mahdi Razazadeh, the CEO of the Technical Inspection Center for Vehicles in Tehran, stated in a meeting about the necessity of amending the law regarding the exemption of new vehicles from technical inspections: "Currently, vehicles in our country are exempt from technical inspection for up to four years, whereas in many countries around the world, the exemption period corresponds to the vehicle's warranty period."
Exemption period for technical inspections and vehicle warranties
He continued: "In our country, automakers guarantee their produced vehicles for a maximum of two years, but the exemption period from technical inspection is four years." Statistics show that about 20% of vehicles that come for technical inspection after the exemption period are rejected. Razazadeh emphasized that this rejection rate does not differ significantly for vehicles over four years old.

Condition of old vehicles and safety
The CEO of the Technical Inspection Center for Vehicles in Tehran also referred to the condition of old vehicles and said: "The number of vehicles in the country is increasing, and some of these vehicles are in the hands of low-income communities and are still used for daily activities and even public services."
He added: "Many old vehicles that are subject to scrapping are still circulating in the city and can pose safety and technical health risks." Razazadeh called for more serious measures to continuously monitor these vehicles.
He further mentioned the technical inspections of public vehicles and said: "For public vehicles, there is an obligation to undergo technical inspection one year after production, and as the vehicle ages, the number of visits also increases."
Razazadeh suggested that vehicles over 20 years old should visit technical inspection centers at least twice a year to be continuously monitored and improve their technical health.
He also referred to the issue of some vehicles from Tehran visiting technical inspection centers outside the capital and said: "Our suggestion is that in areas with air pollution control, the movement of vehicles should be conditional on having a technical inspection issued from Tehran or at least a superior technical inspection."
Razazadeh concluded by emphasizing that the goal of these suggestions is to control vehicle movement and reduce air pollution, and it is expected that vehicles operating in these areas will meet higher technical standards.
