Men with prostate cancer, which includes millions of individuals each year, have recently made important findings that could impact their quality of life and longevity. According to a new study, the type of fat consumed after the diagnosis of this disease may be related to the risk of death. Researchers have found that men who consume more saturated fats face a higher risk of death compared to others.

Risks of Saturated Fats

Research has shown that men who consume the highest amounts of saturated fat are 24% more likely to be at risk of death than those who consume the least. This increased risk is primarily due to cardiovascular diseases and other cancers. Interestingly, researchers found no link between the type of fat consumed and death caused by prostate cancer itself. These findings could help men with this disease improve their diet.

Replacing Fats

Researchers have also examined the impact of replacing saturated fats with plant fats. The results indicate that if men replace just 5% of their calorie intake from saturated fats with monounsaturated fats, they can reduce their risk of death by up to 20%. Monounsaturated fats are found in foods such as olive oil, avocados, and certain nuts. These findings suggest that merely reducing fat in the diet is not enough; the type of fat that is replaced is also of special importance.

In this context, studies show that replacing every 10% of animal fats with plant fats is also associated with a 16% reduction in the risk of death. These results can serve as guidance for men with prostate cancer to improve their quality of life through smart food choices.

However, it should be noted that this study does not indicate that olive oil or other healthy fats can treat prostate cancer or prevent death from this disease. This research is observational and cannot prove that dietary changes directly lead to a reduction in the risk of death. However, the findings align with existing evidence regarding the importance of unsaturated fats for heart health.

Ultimately, for men facing the challenge of prostate cancer, the main message of this study is that alongside following treatment and medical advice, paying attention to the quality of fats consumed in their diet can help improve their health status. By choosing unsaturated fats instead of saturated fats, men can take effective steps towards improving their health and achieving a better quality of life.
