Majid Amani, CEO of the Engineering and Urban Development Organization of Tehran, announced the progress of the seismic retrofitting operations of the intersection bridge of Imam Ali (AS) highway and Sekhondan Street, highlighting effective steps towards improving urban infrastructure. This project is being carried out with the aim of increasing safety and structural resilience, especially against earthquakes.
Significant progress in construction operations
Amani explained that the excavation operations around the foundations have been completed to a depth of 11 meters (foundation level), and currently, the rebar doweling stages for strengthening the columns are underway. These actions demonstrate a serious commitment to improving safety and the structure's compatibility with environmental and natural conditions.

Technical specifications of the project and execution methods
The CEO of the Engineering and Urban Development Organization of Tehran stated regarding the technical specifications of this project: "The execution method used in this operation is designed as a Concrete Jacket. The reinforcement area includes 10 main columns, 2 end columns on the eastern and western sides, and 2 bridge abutments." This method is specifically designed to strengthen and increase the durability of structures against various pressures, including earthquakes.
Amani emphasized that the construction operations are being carried out with strict adherence to technical standards and continuous supervision. He also noted that this project not only contributes to increasing seismic resilience but also improves the load capacity and durability of this heavily trafficked intersection.
Challenges and future outlook
Given the importance of this intersection for urban traffic, the reinforcement project of the Imam Ali (AS) highway bridge is considered one of the key priorities in Tehran's urban development programs. Amani pointed out the challenges ahead and expressed hope that, with the cooperation of engineering teams and careful supervision, the operations will be successfully completed.
This project, as part of comprehensive urban plans, reflects special attention to the safety and quality of urban infrastructure. Upon completion of these operations, it is expected that we will witness a reduction in traffic problems and an increase in safety in this area.
