Lying Down After Eating? Say Goodbye to Acid Reflux!

توسط تحریریهٔ خبرگزاری ایرانیان 2 دقیقه زمان مطالعه 0

Many of us have the habit of lying down and resting immediately after eating. But did you know that this habit can significantly worsen acid reflux? Heartburn and regurgitation are among the issues that can arise from this simple behavior.

Why is Lying Down After Eating Harmful?

In general, sleeping or lying down immediately after eating can cause stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus. This phenomenon, known as reflux, can create feelings of discomfort and severe burning. In fact, when you lie down, pressure on the stomach increases, and as a result, food and stomach acid can easily flow back into the esophagus.

Research shows that maintaining an appropriate distance between meals and sleep can significantly prevent these symptoms. For example, it is better to avoid heavy meals at least two to three hours before sleeping. This not only helps stomach health but also brings you better sleep.

Simple Solutions to Reduce Reflux

Avoiding heavy and fatty meals as well as refraining from eating spicy and seasoned foods close to bedtime can help reduce reflux symptoms. Additionally, using higher pillows can help prevent stomach acid from returning to the esophagus.

Remember that each individual may react differently to their food. Therefore, you can experiment with various methods to find the best solution for yourself. In any case, paying attention to eating habits and post-meal behaviors can play an important role in your health.
