The US carried out a limited attack on Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, late on Monday. This attack, described by US news sources as "defensive," occurred ahead of the US midterm elections and while JD Vance, the Vice President, expressed optimism that diplomatic efforts to end the war are on the right track.

Details of the Attack and Reactions

According to Iranian state media, explosions were heard on Qeshm Island. While the cause of these explosions is still unclear, news sources have reported that the targets of these attacks were surface-to-air missiles used against US assets. The US Central Command has not yet responded to requests for comment on this matter.

This attack has been described as part of a series of smaller attacks that have occurred against Iran in recent weeks. It is reported that these attacks have been deliberately carried out covertly by the Trump administration to avoid any indication of a return to military operations against Iran.

Political and Economic Consequences

Qeshm Island has been targeted multiple times during the war. This island, located at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, has previously been used to attack commercial vessels in this waterway. Although attacks have ceased in recent weeks, Iran continues to enforce its restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to reporters' questions about the possibility of resuming attacks on Iran after the midterm elections, Trump said, "No." He also emphasized in an interview with Fox News that no war is currently taking place and expressed hope that the parties would reach an agreement.

According to Vance and Trump, they are optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran. Vance told reporters, "We have certainly made progress, and we will see if we can move further or not." Meanwhile, oil prices have emerged as a key issue in the midterm elections, with rising prices due to the war becoming a major topic for voters.
