Lauren Manaker and Roxana Ehsani, two nutrition specialists, have highlighted important points regarding egg consumption and its impact on heart health. While eggs are recognized as a rich source of protein and vitamins, there are also concerns about their effect on blood cholesterol levels.

Permissible Egg Consumption

According to Manaker, for most healthy adults, daily egg consumption does not pose a problem. This specialist states that consuming 7 to 14 eggs per week is appropriate for most individuals. According to her, this amount depends on the type of diet and the overall health of the person. Manaker also notes that according to the American Heart Association, healthy individuals can include an average of 7 eggs per week in their diet.

Cholesterol and Fat Effects on Egg Consumption

Manaker explains that the relationship between eggs and cholesterol is very complex. Contrary to popular belief, eggs are not a problem for cholesterol levels. She points to saturated fats as the main factor in raising blood cholesterol and states that eggs contain only 1.6 grams of saturated fat. Additionally, the majority of the fat in eggs is unsaturated, which contributes to heart health.

Roxana Ehsani, another nutrition specialist, also emphasizes that moderate egg consumption can help maintain heart health. She mentions that overindulging in eggs may eliminate unique nutrients found in a varied diet.

Experts also highlight the importance of how eggs are cooked. Manaker states that consuming eggs with foods high in saturated fat, such as bacon, can negatively impact cholesterol levels. Therefore, choosing healthier cooking methods for eggs can be beneficial.

Finally, Ehsani notes that if you are older, your cholesterol level is within a healthy range, and you are currently following a healthy diet to maintain heart health, consuming 14 eggs per week is generally acceptable. This balance in egg consumption can help you reap its benefits without harming your health.
