Kim Yo Jong, sister of the North Korean leader, recently stated that her country is fully prepared militarily for any escalation of tensions. She announced that new countermeasures along the entire border will be on full alert and loudspeakers directed towards South Korea will be ready for operation within a few days.
Preparation for Various Scenarios
Kim Yo Jong added that South Korean officials must be ready for any scenario in the event of further tensions. She also emphasized that North Korea will respond proportionally to any actions taken in border areas. These remarks come in the wake of landmine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in September 2026, which resulted in injuries to three South Korean soldiers. Seoul held North Korea responsible for these explosions, which Kim Yo Jong denied.
Turning the Border into an Impenetrable Fortress
Kim Yo Jong noted that turning the border with South Korea into an impenetrable fortress would significantly reduce the risk of military conflict between the two countries. Following these statements, South Korean Defense Minister Kang Shin-chul accused North Korea of violating the ceasefire agreement. He stated that the recent explosions in the DMZ, likely caused by landmines planted by North Korea, are a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two Koreas.
Kang Shin-chul also pointed out that North Korea is responsible for this incident and that his country will take necessary actions in this regard. These tensions arise as the history of conflicts between the two Koreas, especially in recent years, has become highly complex and fraught with tension.
In this context, new developments at the border between the two Koreas could have serious implications for security and stability in the region. Although Kim Yo Jong is trying to showcase her country's military power by creating an atmosphere of threat and readiness in North Korea, these actions could lead to heightened tensions and an increased risk of military conflict.
