Khatibzadeh, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the Political and International Studies Center of this ministry, sharply criticized the performance of the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding attacks on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, describing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as being in a critical state. He emphasized the double standards of the claimants, stating: "The NPT is alive with artificial respiration."
Crises of the NPT and Criticism of the Agency
Khatibzadeh referred to the challenges facing the NPT in his remarks, adding that this treaty has become severely vulnerable due to political pressures and insufficient support from international bodies. He also criticized the lack of decisive response from the International Atomic Energy Agency against violations of this treaty. Meanwhile, many countries are expanding their nuclear programs, and the NPT, as a legal framework to prevent this proliferation, has been significantly weakened.

Consequences of the Erosion of the NPT
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the current state of the NPT poses a danger to global peace and security. He pointed out that if the International Atomic Energy Agency fails to fulfill its commitments and defend the peaceful nuclear facilities of member states, this treaty will soon lose its credibility, and more countries will move towards developing nuclear weapons. Khatibzadeh also emphasized that Iran has always adhered to its commitments under the NPT framework and seeks peaceful use of nuclear energy.
He continued: "We demand the realization of our rights and expect the international community, especially the International Atomic Energy Agency, to properly fulfill its duties." These remarks come at a time when international bodies are seeking ways to strengthen the NPT and prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
