Jafar Ghaderi, a member of the Economic Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, recently announced a proposal to remove subsidy cards for higher income deciles. This proposal has been made to increase the amount of subsidy cards for lower income deciles. Ghaderi stated, "It is natural that when the government does not have the capacity to increase the amount of subsidy cards for lower income deciles, it has no choice but to remove the subsidy cards for higher income deciles."
Removal of Subsidy Cards; A Way to Support the Weaker
According to Ghaderi's statements, the government should take action to remove subsidy cards for the 8th, 9th, and 10th deciles to secure the financial resources necessary to increase the amount of subsidy cards for lower income deciles. He emphasized that this action could help increase support for the seven lower income deciles and somewhat reduce existing inequalities.
Concerns About Incorrect Information
However, Ghaderi pointed out an important concern; he said, "One concern is that the government's information may not be sufficient, and those who should not receive subsidy cards might receive them, while those who should receive them might not due to deficiencies in the information." This issue could lead to greater inequality in resource distribution and, instead of supporting the weaker segments, benefit individuals who are not actually in need.
The Need to Update Information Systems
Ghaderi emphasized the necessity of updating the government's information systems and said, "The government must update its systems so that no one's rights regarding subsidy cards are violated." Updating these systems can help prevent problems arising from incorrect information and ultimately lead to a fairer distribution of resources among different social deciles.
It seems that this proposal is not only an economic measure but also an important social decision that could have profound impacts on people's daily lives. In a situation where economic pressures on the weaker segments of society are increasing, such decisions could indicate the government's attention to the real needs of the people and simultaneously pave the way for improving living conditions.
