Ismail Baqai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a press conference on Monday, October 20, expressed condolences on the occasion of the martyrdom of the cultural deputy of the police force in Sistan and Baluchestan province, and addressed the situation of the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. claims about it.
Honoring Martyrs and Iranian Culture
Baqai began the session by recalling the sacrifices of martyrs, stating: "The reason I mention martyrs in meetings is to honor the security and power of Iran, which is the result of the sacrifices of martyrs." He also referred to the commemoration of Hafez, the great Iranian poet, saying: "I congratulate this day to all Iranians and lovers of Iranian culture, literature, and nobility."
Security Challenges in the Strait of Hormuz
In response to a journalist's question about the U.S. President's claims regarding the normalization of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baqai criticized this claim using the poetry of Rumi, stating: "The claims of the Americans have no correlation with what we observe in the field of reality." He added: "The developments in the Strait of Hormuz have not occurred with the aim of leveraging, and we have taken measures based on international law."
Baqai emphasized: "As long as the U.S. insists on continuing to destabilize this waterway, security will not return to it. We are not happy with this situation; because the security of the Strait of Hormuz is most necessary for us."
Response to U.S. Secretary of State's Remarks
In response to the remarks of the U.S. Secretary of State in Athens, who referenced the history of Greece and ancient wars, Baqai regarded this speech as part of the U.S. cognitive warfare against Iran, stating: "This is a completely distorted interpretation of historical events that is dangerous and an injustice to Greek culture and civilization."
He continued: "The U.S. Secretary of State inadvertently acknowledged realities that Iran has maintained as a concept and idea for thousands of years. The secret of Iran's endurance lies in its interactiveness and engagement." Baqai stated: "We have never sought our power and existence in negating others and have even interacted with our rivals."
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded by pointing out that the U.S. cannot present itself as the representative of Western civilization and Greece, asking: "Were the two world wars that occurred among Europeans a result of conflict and confrontation between Eastern and Western civilizations?"
