Increase in Mental Health Crises in Children, from Self-Harm to Eating Disorders

توسط تحریریهٔ خبرگزاری ایرانیان 2 دقیقه زمان مطالعه 1

In recent years, hospital emergency rooms have witnessed a significant rise in cases of self-harm, eating disorders, and emotional problems among children and adolescents. This concerning phenomenon reflects serious challenges in the mental health of our young generation. Particularly, children who have not yet reached the age of six are increasingly experiencing mental health crises.

Increase in Emergency Room Visits

Recent analyses indicate that social, economic, and cultural pressures, along with the global mental health crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, have severely impacted young people. Many of these children are facing feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression, leading them to engage in dangerous behaviors such as self-harm.

This issue is so serious that treatment centers are rapidly increasing their service capacities to meet the urgent needs of these children. Mental health professionals warn that if this trend continues, the consequences could seriously affect the mental and social health of the community.

Social and Family Challenges

In addition to the individual problems children face, family and social issues also exacerbate this crisis. Economic pressures, family instability, and lack of necessary support from the community can intensify this situation. Families need to pay more attention to the importance of children's mental health and seek solutions to support them.

Ultimately, this situation is a wake-up call that requires immediate attention and effective action from the government and social institutions. Only through collective cooperation and effort can we help improve the conditions and mental health of future generations.
