The increase in Iran Khodro product prices last week has become one of the hot topics of discussion in the car market. Ebrahim Salari, the Director General of Supervision over Metal and Mineral Goods of the Organization for Consumer Protection, explained the reasons for these price increases, stating that part of these changes is related to the Cabinet's approval and changes in the regulations concerning vehicle scrapping certificates.
Details of Price Increases
Salari further explained that the increase in Iran Khodro product prices in October occurred for two main reasons. First, changes resulting from the Cabinet's approval and the increase in costs related to vehicle scrapping certificates, and second, related to the calculated prices that had previously been reviewed and communicated to the company. He emphasized that these changes have been pursued following negotiations and reviews considering various considerations.
New Vehicle Pricing Method
The Director General of Supervision over Metal and Mineral Goods of the Organization for Consumer Protection also explained that meetings have been held with the participation of relevant agencies at the National Competition Center regarding the revision of the vehicle pricing formula. He added that the draft of the new vehicle pricing method has been prepared by the Machinery and Equipment Industries Department of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and will be finalized after obtaining the opinions of other relevant authorities.
Salari also referred to the powers of the Organization for Consumer Protection in dealing with price increases without permission from automakers, stating that requests for price increases for assembled and domestically produced vehicles are reviewed based on the approved guidelines for regulating the passenger car market by the Competition Council. He added that in the event of arbitrary price increases by vehicle suppliers, necessary warnings to halt the price increase will first be communicated to these companies, and if they ignore these warnings, necessary punitive actions will be taken according to the relevant laws and regulations.
Consequences of Price Increases
The increase in Iran Khodro product prices could have widespread effects on the car market and also on people's daily lives. This price increase may in turn lead to an increase in household living costs and generate a wave of dissatisfaction. Additionally, the lack of transparency in pricing and automakers' policies could lead to public distrust in this industry.
Ultimately, given the current conditions of the car market and the challenges it faces, there is a need for a coherent and transparent approach to pricing and market supervision. This could help restore public trust and create a fair and competitive market.
