Majid Amani, CEO of the Engineering and Construction Organization of Tehran Municipality, announced the commencement of the seismic reinforcement and improvement project for the Sheikh Fazlollah Nouri and Jalal-Al-Ahmad (Azmayesh) overpass bridge. This project, considered one of the key and heavily trafficked structures in Tehran's road network, has been prioritized by this organization with the aim of enhancing resilience and ensuring the safety of the city's technical infrastructure against unforeseen events.
Purpose of Reinforcing the Azmayesh Bridge
Amani explained that the Azmayesh Bridge, due to structural issues, particularly in the deck section, requires careful attention and thorough examination. He noted that this bridge, as one of the busy and important points in Tehran, has been a focus of attention since ancient times, and this year, after conducting detailed studies and necessary assessments, the execution plans have been prepared and a contractor has been selected.
He also referred to the project's execution process and stated: "The execution operations of this project are being pursued rapidly." The main objective of this project is to strengthen the integrity of the structure and increase its safety for the passage of citizens.
Technical Details of the Project
The CEO of the Engineering and Construction Organization of Tehran Municipality explained that this project focuses on two main areas: "Composite decking of the bridge" and "Reinforcement of the columns and capitals." These two measures are designed to increase strength and reduce risks arising from earthquakes and other natural disasters.
Amani also pointed out that given Tehran's geographical location and climatic conditions, it is necessary for all structures, especially bridges, to be updated technically and structurally to be more resilient against earthquakes and other natural disasters.
With the implementation of this project, it is hoped that not only will the safety of the Azmayesh Bridge increase, but also public trust in urban structures will be strengthened. This project is considered an important step towards improving Tehran's urban infrastructure and can serve as a model for other counterparts in the country.
