Gholamhossein Darzi, the ambassador and chargé d'affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council on October 21, 2026 (equivalent to Mehr 29, 1405). In this letter, Darzi urged the Security Council to firmly condemn the aggressive actions of the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran through the naval blockade.
Ongoing Aggressions and Violations of International Law
Darzi reminded the Secretary-General and the Security Council that the continuation of the naval blockade and military actions by the United States constitutes a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law. He called for an immediate halt to the military aggressions of the United States and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran. The letter also emphasized the international responsibility of the United States regarding its unlawful actions.

Humanitarian Consequences of the Naval Blockade
The Iranian ambassador further pointed to the extensive humanitarian damages that the naval blockade inflicts on the civilian population. Darzi urged the Security Council to ask all member states to refrain from recognizing and supporting the unilateral coercive measures of the United States. These actions, particularly the negative impacts on civilians' access to food and medicine, can have severe humanitarian consequences.
Darzi also referred to Iran's inherent right to legitimate defense against any aggressive actions and stated that this right remains valid under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He emphasized that Iran, as an independent country, will defend its rights and considers this blockade a serious threat to international peace and security.
