The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, stated that her goal in meeting with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of international meetings, was to emphasize that Europe should not leave its engagement with Russia in the hands of the United States. This meeting took place amid heightened tensions between Europe and Russia due to the war in Ukraine and sanctions.

Meeting with Lavrov and its Consequences

Baerbock told her colleagues during this meeting that she is seeking to establish communication and dialogue with Russia so that Europe can act more independently in its policies. She noted the importance of international relations, adding that if Europe wants to play an effective role in global issues, it must act independently in its interactions with Russia and should not solely rely on the United States.

Challenges Ahead for Europe

The German Foreign Minister also pointed to the challenges facing Europe in dealing with Russian policies, stating: "We cannot rely solely on the United States; we must find our own solutions and in this regard, we must also pay attention to other European countries. As a representative of Germany, I do not want Europe to be dominated by the United States in this matter."

These statements come as some European countries have criticized U.S. policies towards Russia and called for a more independent approach. Baerbock also emphasized the need for European unity in this regard, saying: "We can only succeed if we are united and present a single voice to the world in the face of challenges."

Currently, there are growing concerns about the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine. Many experts believe that constructive engagement with Russia could lead to a reduction in tensions and improvement in conditions, although this requires a rational and principled approach.

Germany's Policies and Its Role in Europe

Germany, as one of the main powers in Europe, plays a key role in shaping the continent's policies. Given the historical and complex relations Germany has with Russia, Baerbock emphasized that the country must act in accordance with its own interests as well as the interests of all of Europe. She suggested that other European countries should act carefully and wisely in their decision-making and interactions with Russia, especially in economic matters.

In conclusion, the German Foreign Minister expressed hope that diplomacy and dialogue could help reduce tensions and establish peace. She stressed the importance of remembering that Europe must act independently in its policies towards Russia and avoid reliance on other powers.
