Four people were injured in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, due to the fall of debris from two cruise missiles launched by the armed forces of Yemen, once again highlighting the dimensions of tension in the region. This incident occurred on October 13, 2023 (2 Jumada al-Awwal) and resulted in injuries to two women, one man, and one child.

Details of the Incident

The spokesperson for the Saudi Civil Defense announced that the missiles released their debris over an area in Riyadh during interception and destruction. In addition to the four injuries, this incident caused minor material damage to 15 houses. Rescue forces were immediately dispatched to the scene and took necessary measures to manage the situation.

Security Impacts and Consequences

This incident, which clearly indicates the continuation of military tensions in Yemen and their impacts on Saudi Arabia, occurs while Saudi media report hearing loud explosions in various areas of Riyadh and near key facilities such as Aramco. Additionally, several explosions have been reported from King Khalid Airport and the Riyadh oil refinery.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has imposed a blockade on Yemen to prevent the influence of Houthi militants. This blockade, supported by international backing, has severely impacted the humanitarian situation in Yemen and has faced multiple reactions from Yemeni forces. In July 2023, Yemeni forces took control of strategic areas including the port of Mokha and secured the Bab al-Mandab Strait as one of the most important shipping routes in the world.

In this context, recent developments indicate that tensions in the region continue to escalate, challenging international efforts for peace and stability. Given the new dimensions of these conflicts, many questions arise regarding the future of relations between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and the security situation in the region.
