Phuket Island, one of Thailand's main tourist destinations, has been impacted by recent heavy rains, causing many areas to be submerged. Rainfall in the past 24 hours reached 117 millimeters, and flood levels in some areas reached 30 to 50 centimeters.
Significant Damage to Infrastructure
Runoff from heavy rains has transferred soil from higher ground to the roads and streets of Phuket, bringing mud, rocks, and sand to these areas. This situation has led to the blockage of some routes and damage to vehicles, motorcycles, and shops. Local residents, in interviews, described the severity of this flood as extraordinary, with some calling it the "worst flood in 50 years."

Warnings and Measures from Officials
Island officials have advised residents to follow official announcements and avoid crossing flooded routes. They have also warned that if the rain continues, conditions may worsen. The Thai Meteorological Organization has also warned of continued heavy rainfall in southern regions until Wednesday, stating that these conditions could lead to more floods and landslides.
According to reports, the Deputy Governor of Phuket Province, Romdon Haiyawa, announced that water levels in some areas began to recede from late morning, but some areas are still flooded. He mentioned landslides in some parts of the province and reported ongoing debris clearance. About 100 households have been affected by this incident, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Widespread Consequences for Tourism
Given that Phuket Province is considered one of Thailand's main tourist destinations, this flood could have profound impacts on the tourism industry and the local economy. While some tourists have had to change their travel plans due to the adverse conditions, local residents are also facing serious challenges in meeting their daily needs.
Ultimately, despite the problems and challenges ahead, there is hope that the rainfall will soon decrease and normal conditions will return to the affected areas. Until then, residents and officials must take necessary actions with caution and awareness of the current situation, working together to overcome this crisis.
