Esteghlal and Persepolis, with over 75,000 and 70,000 attendees at their matches, have remarkably topped the list of the most attended games in Asia. These two major Iranian clubs hold a special place not only in the hearts of their fans but also at the continental level. The Asian Football Confederation has published average attendance statistics for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, showing that these two teams have attracted attention with their millions of spectators.

High-Attendance Matches and Their Impact on Football Culture

Among the 10 most attended matches in Asia, the match between Esteghlal and Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia, with 75,130 attendees, and the match between Persepolis and Al-Nassr, with 70,350 attendees, are recognized as the most attended games. This data reflects the deep interest of Iranians in football and their unconditional support for their favorite teams. Following these two matches, the final of the Elite League, held between Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia and Kawasaki of Japan, ranks third with 58,281 attendees.

Concerns Over Hosting Ban

Despite these incredible statistics, the hosting situation for Iranian teams in the Elite League and the AFC Champions League is extremely concerning. Three teams, Esteghlal, Tractor, and Gol Gohar, have been banned from hosting in their own country due to various issues. This situation not only negatively impacts the teams but also casts a shadow over the football culture in Iran. Iranian football fans always expect to support their teams at home, but these bans have created a gap between fans and teams, raising new concerns.

Interestingly, in examining average attendance in East Asia, Japan ranks fifth with an average of 9,290 spectators, and South Korea ranks seventh with an average of 4,249 spectators. These figures, compared to Iran's statistics, indicate a greater interest and enthusiasm among Iranian fans for football. However, the hosting bans and infrastructural issues in the country pose serious challenges for Iranian football and require special attention.
