Flight number OS82 of Austrian Airlines, which was traveling from Tel Aviv to Vienna, unexpectedly landed in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on Sunday evening, October 19 (27 Mehr), due to a bomb threat alert. This incident occurred suddenly while the plane was near the Romanian border, and the crew decided to make an emergency landing after receiving the alert.
Details of the landing and security measures
A spokesperson for Austrian Airlines announced that there were 51 passengers and 6 crew members on board the Airbus A320. The aircraft safely landed in Sofia at 20:42 local time and was immediately subjected to security inspections. After the checks were completed, passengers are expected to be transferred to other flights to continue their journey.
According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications, this emergency landing was made due to a bomb threat. During the flight, as the aircraft approached its destination, the crew reported receiving an alert about a bomb on board and decided to land in Sofia. A Bulgarian Air Force fighter jet also accompanied the aircraft for escort until landing.
Similar threats against Israeli flights
This incident is considered part of a series of similar threats against flights related to Israel. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz had previously reported receiving an anonymous tip about a suspicious object inside the aircraft. Additionally, reports indicated that two flights of American airline Delta had also recently been targeted by bomb threats, which were ultimately determined to be false alarms.
The flight tracking service "FlightRadar24" reported that this Airbus was scheduled to depart from Tel Aviv at 18:40, and its route was changed to Sofia until 21:25. This change of route and emergency landing has raised security concerns and attracted media attention.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications did not respond to requests for comments on this incident. However, concerns about flight security continue, and such threats can have serious consequences for the aviation industry and international travel.
