The dredging of Tehran's rivers and canals has begun to prepare for autumn rains. Alireza Jafari, the Director General of Urban Services of Tehran Municipality, referred to the warnings from the Meteorological Organization about autumn rains during the second day of the fourth training course on flood skills and operational practice in difficult conditions, stating: "Since the beginning of September, dredging of open and closed rivers, canals, and water diversion paths has been on the agenda of the regions."

Actions Taken for Dredging Rivers

Jafari stated that colleagues are dredging and cleaning these paths throughout the city daily based on planning and monitoring, adding: "These actions are taken to prevent traffic problems and ensure the presence of citizens during rainfall."

He also mentioned the approaching autumn season and added: "Regions have been mandated to continuously monitor open rivers to ensure that leaves, trash, and other debris do not accumulate in the waterway." According to Jafari, valves that need repair will also be identified and fixed to ensure proper functioning during rainfall.

Extent of the Stormwater Collection Network

The Director General of Urban Services of Tehran Municipality explained about the stormwater collection network in the capital: "In Tehran, there are over 700 kilometers of canals and main paths for stormwater collection, including open and closed paths. Additionally, about 10,000 kilometers of open ditches direct stormwater to underground canals."

Jafari emphasized that maintaining this extensive network requires cooperation from citizens. He warned about the dangers of littering in rivers, stating: "The stormwater network is designed for a specific volume of rainfall, and dumping trash in rivers can cause blockages and problems during rainfall."

In conclusion, he urged citizens to refrain from littering in rivers and to report any need for dredging or cleaning through the 137 system to the municipality for necessary action.
