The death of a seven-year-old child in Tabriz due to rabies has sounded an alarm for the country's health system. Qobad Moradi, head of the Center for Communicable Disease Management at the Ministry of Health, stated that this child had received vaccination and serum treatment, and investigations are underway regarding possible shortcomings in addressing his condition.
Review of Health Challenges
Moradi expressed concern about the health situation in the management of stray dogs, saying: "Unfortunately, there is no good organization in this area. In other countries, dogs are carefully examined from a health perspective and face fewer challenges than we do." These concerns clearly indicate the need for improvement in health systems and control of stray animals in the country.
Statistics on Animal Bites and Vaccination
The Center for Communicable Disease Management at the Ministry of Health announced that over 440,000 cases of animal bites are recorded annually in the country. These individuals visit health centers for vaccination and rabies serum. This statistic highlights the potential danger that exists for the community and further emphasizes the need for immediate and effective action.
The death of this child clearly reveals the existing deficiencies in the health system and the management of stray animals. The necessity of creating appropriate infrastructure for controlling the population of stray dogs and increasing public awareness about the dangers they pose are among the actions that can prevent similar incidents. In this regard, improving and strengthening health systems to combat communicable diseases such as rabies is a fundamental priority.
