The Belarusian Foreign Minister recently stated that the United Nations can no longer act as a representative of the current realities of the world. This senior Belarusian official emphasized that Minsk is seeking emerging international collaborations like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), viewing these two entities not as competitors to the UN, but as catalysts for its reforms.
New Global Realities
The United Nations, established as an international entity to maintain global peace and security, has faced numerous challenges in recent years. Belarus believes that this organization cannot alone meet new global needs and must move towards innovation and reform. The Belarusian Foreign Minister deemed these changes necessary and referred to BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as tools to expedite these reforms.
The Role of BRICS and Shanghai in the Future
BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is emerging as a growing platform for economic and political cooperation. Additionally, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, established to strengthen security and economic cooperation in the Central and Eastern Asian region, has become one of the influential entities in recent years. Belarus seeks to strengthen cooperation with these organizations to play an active role in global changes.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister further stated that the member countries of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can serve as models for new collaborations and help Belarus achieve its international goals. He also added that these collaborations could lead to improvements in his country's economic and political situation while contributing to the establishment of a new global order.
Ultimately, Belarus emphasizes that the time has come for the United Nations to move towards serious and effective reforms and to take advantage of the new capacities offered by BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This approach could lead to positive changes in international policies and interactions among countries.
