The Ayatollah Mojtaba Tehrani Highway, which has been awaiting completion and operation for years, is now being executed rapidly and will soon be operational. Mohammad Javad Khosravi, the mayor of District 22 in Tehran, announced that the northern section of this highway, after 12 years of halt, is currently progressing and will soon be used as one of the most important urban thoroughfares.
Positive Impacts on Urban Traffic
With the opening of this route, the connection between Shahid Kharrazi, Shahid Hamdani, and Shahid Fahmideh highways will be established, and according to Khosravi, this project will significantly help reduce traffic at the city intersection. The average length of urban trips will decrease by 1.5 kilometers, and the slope of the route will improve in both directions.

Khosravi pointed out the scope of this project, stating that the construction of the northern section of the Ayatollah Mojtaba Tehrani Highway is underway between the slow lane of Shahid Kharrazi Highway and Shahraki Street. This project covers an area of about 27,000 square meters, including extensive excavation, filling, subgrade preparation, asphalt laying, and the implementation of refuge and curbs.
Project Progress Details
So far, about 46,000 cubic meters of excavation and filling work and 7,000 tons of base laying have been completed. To complete this axis, 5,150 tons of asphalt are needed in a mechanized manner. Additionally, a median refuge with an area of 3,720 square meters and a length of 930 meters is under construction, and the total implementation of the ditch and curb along the route and refuge reaches about 5,000 meters.
Khosravi emphasized that with the opening of this project, part of the traffic from Nature, Taravat, and Mey'ad streets will be transferred to the new network, which will help reduce vehicle congestion in these thoroughfares. Furthermore, access for the residents of the Lake neighborhood and Sarvabad town to main routes and highways will be significantly improved.
Completing this project will also facilitate citizens' access to the Iran Mall complex and will make access to this complex through the regional highway network much easier. Given these features, this project can have significant positive impacts on the quality of life for the residents of the area.
Khosravi also referred to corrective actions along the route, stating that in addition to the new entrance to Chitgar Town, the slope of the route is being adjusted to increase traffic safety, and the construction of an exit ramp from north to south of Ayatollah Mojtaba Tehrani Highway to Shahid Hamdani Highway is also on the agenda to ensure safety and speed of vehicle movement after the project is completed.
