The arrival of 31 double-decker buses in the country is a pleasant event for Tehran citizens. Despite the alleged siege by the United States, these buses entered Iranian territory yesterday and will soon be added to the urban transportation fleet.
Good News for Public Transportation
Abdol-Motahhar Mohammadkhani, the spokesperson for the Tehran Municipality, announced the arrival of new buses during a press conference held to mark the beginning of the new school year, stating that 101 double-decker buses are currently in operation in Tehran. He expressed hope that, with the cooperation of customs, these buses will be unveiled in the first week of Mehr.
Mohammadkhani emphasized: "These buses are part of 200 buses for which a contract was signed with China, and we hope the rest will also enter the country soon." He also mentioned the delivery of 26-meter three-decker buses and other double-decker buses, stating that the loading of these buses has begun at ports in China.
Development of Public Transportation and Encouragement to Use It
The spokesperson for the Tehran Municipality also referred to plans for extending free public transportation and said: "This program was approved by the majority of city council members and will continue for the next two months." He added that the municipality has planned discounts for various social groups through smart services in the form of a citizen club.
Mohammadkhani noted a 20% increase in metro usage during the free public transportation days, emphasizing that changing the ratio of public to private transportation is one of the municipality's goals. He pointed out that due to rising fuel prices, citizens' motivation to use personal vehicles remains high, and the citizen club idea could help change this consumption pattern.
He also referred to the Tehran mayor's idea of using a specific model of buses as a school service and mentioned that this issue is being pursued. Mohammadkhani also recalled the implementation of safety programs around schools and added that encouraging the use of public transportation could help reduce traffic accidents.
Finally, Mohammadkhani addressed concerns about the buses being damaged during their transfer to the country, emphasizing that none of the buses were harmed and expressing hope for more cooperation from customs to quickly transport these buses to Tehran.
