Poland has arrested a man approximately 60 years old on charges of plotting an assassination against Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of the country, and Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the Minister of Defense. This arrest came after an emergency meeting of security agencies that reviewed information related to potential threats.
Details of the Arrest and Threats
Donald Tusk expressed gratitude on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for the swift and decisive action of the police in arresting this man. A spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of the Interior announced that the man was arrested in southwestern Poland and was suspected after a thorough analysis of content published online.

Marcin Kierwiński, the Minister of the Interior, stated that the suspect was linked to very extremist groups and had been in contact with individuals online. However, Polish officials have not yet released further details about the exact nature of the threats or the suspect's motives.
Increase in Security Threats in Poland
Jarosław Dąbrowski, the spokesperson for the coordinator of Polish intelligence agencies, had previously stated that responsible authorities assessed the likelihood of the assassination threats being realized as very high. This comes as Poland has warned in recent months about an increase in security threats and the potential escalation of actions by Russia.
As a member of the European Union and NATO, Poland sees itself exposed to threats from Russia. The country, which shares borders with Ukraine and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, has recently faced multiple security incidents. For example, on September 13, 2026, a drone struck a train locomotive near the Polish border, raising new concerns about security threats.
Following this incident, Donald Tusk convened an emergency crisis meeting, and Polish officials accused Russia of escalating tensions. Additionally, within four days, Poland experienced three knife attacks in schools, resulting in at least one death and several injuries. The Polish police reported that 117 individuals were arrested for carrying knives or dangerous weapons.
Currently, investigations into the activities and communications of the arrested suspect are ongoing, and Polish officials have emphasized that more information will be released soon.
