A 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy were arrested in Mashhad on charges of stealing mobile phones. These two individuals, who were part of a cell phone theft gang, had recently stolen a young woman's phone on Monfarid Street. Colonel Rouhollah Lotfi, the head of the Abkooh police station in Mashhad, had initiated targeted patrols by special order to combat various crimes, especially theft.

Pursuit and Arrest

Officers from the Abkooh police station, after receiving a report of the theft, pursued a motorbike-riding girl and boy who were fleeing. Shortly after, they were arrested by the police, and during a search of them, two stolen phones were discovered. Initial investigations revealed that these two had committed the theft just a few minutes prior.

Under Police Scrutiny

Upon transferring the suspects to the police station, specialized investigations began under the supervision of Captain Tayouri, head of the investigation department. At this stage, it became clear that a 16-year-old buyer was also active in this gang, purchasing stolen phones from gang members. This led to the buyer being arrested and transferred to the police station.

The 19-year-old suspect confessed that they had stolen two phones in the past few hours. However, further investigations revealed that this gang was implicated in 20 phone thefts in various areas of Mashhad, including Janbaz, Shahid Fahmideh, Khayyam, and Ahmadabad. These confessions indicate the broader scope of this gang's activities.

Ongoing Investigations and Consequences

Police investigations are still ongoing to identify other suspects and individuals associated with this gang. These arrests demonstrate the police's determination to combat street crimes and mobile phone thefts. Given the young age of the suspects, this raises questions about the reasons behind teenagers' inclination towards such crimes and how education and cultural awareness can prevent such behaviors.

In light of these arrests, there seems to be a need for greater cooperation between families and social institutions to prevent such crimes in the future. Additionally, the media can play a significant role in raising community awareness in this regard.
