Amir Pasha Tabaiyan, a gastroenterology and liver specialist and the educational and research deputy of the Medical Council Organization, discussed public beliefs about drinking ice water and its impact on liver health in an interview. He particularly pointed out that concerns about the link between drinking ice water and fatty liver are unfounded.

Ice Water and Fatty Liver; Scientific Realities

Tabaiyan emphasized that ice water cannot directly cause fatty liver. He stressed that fatty liver results from various factors including obesity, poor diet, and lack of physical activity. According to him, changes in lifestyle and nutrition can have a greater impact on liver health.

This gastroenterology and liver specialist also pointed out the importance of maintaining temperature balance in food, stating: "Although ice water itself is not harmful, consuming foods and drinks at very different temperatures may irritate the digestive system. In fact, the human body responds better to milder temperatures, which can contribute to overall health."

Negative Effects of Misconceptions

Tabaiyan emphasized the need for awareness regarding false beliefs and added: "Many people avoid drinking ice water due to hearing these misconceptions, which can lead to dehydration and other problems. These beliefs need to be corrected so that people can easily drink water without misusing it."

He also referred to some other common misconceptions in nutrition, saying: "Many people believe that certain drinks or foods can specifically cause liver problems, while these issues largely depend on individual dietary and lifestyle habits."

Finally, Amir Pasha Tabaiyan stressed the importance of consulting with doctors and nutrition specialists, stating: "Individuals should focus on scientific information and medical advice instead of relying on false beliefs to make better health choices."
