Ali Nasiri, head of the Tehran Disaster Prevention and Management Organization, announced the activity of more than 63,000 emergency response volunteers in the neighborhoods of Tehran. These volunteers, known as the "Davam" groups, are especially prepared for dealing with unexpected incidents such as earthquakes and floods, with a significant presence of women.
Tehran, a disaster-prone city
Nasiri emphasized in his remarks that Tehran is at risk of disasters such as earthquakes and floods due to the presence of faults, river valleys, and the city's slopes. He also referred to the wartime and security conditions that increase the necessity for different groups in society to be prepared to face these challenges. According to him, "All groups in society must have the necessary preparedness to confront disasters."

The role of women in crisis management
He also emphasized the importance of women's participation in crisis management, stating: "Women make up half of the population and play a significant role in families. Educating and involving them in activities related to crisis management can be very impactful." Nasiri noted that more than 80% of the members of the "Davam" groups are women and added: "In recent drills, a large number of volunteers have played roles in the implementation of the program."
This drill, aimed at increasing individuals' preparedness for emergency situations, has been conducted alongside senior and mid-level managers of the municipality and experts from this organization. Nasiri clarified that the goal of this exercise is to strengthen citizens' preparedness in emergencies and hopes that this program will be the beginning of a series of subsequent drills.
Continuous preparedness in women's parks
The head of the Tehran Disaster Prevention and Management Organization continued: "The drills that will be held in the future are not necessarily large, but will be regularly conducted in women's parks, city girls' parks, and centers related to women's affairs." He also referred to the capacities of the Tehran municipality in the women's sector and said: "The municipality, with its various infrastructures dedicated to women, can play a significant role in enhancing their preparedness and increasing citizens' readiness to face crises."
Nasiri expressed hope that these exercises would lay the groundwork for a serious movement to strengthen civic preparedness and help citizens be better prepared for crises and unexpected incidents.
