The AFTA Center has announced to Iranian entities that they must transfer their websites to the .ir domain as soon as possible. This action is necessary due to the risks associated with international domains, especially under sanctions and foreign restrictions. The center emphasized that maintaining the continuity of digital services and access to online platforms is of high importance.
Essential Actions for Transitioning to the .ir Domain
The AFTA Center has outlined five essential actions that organizations must take to transition to the .ir domain:
- Register the .ir Domain in the Organization's Name: Organizations must register the .ir domain exclusively under their legal identity and ownership. AFTA emphasizes avoiding registration in the name of individuals to ensure legal ownership of the domain.
- Complete Migration of Services and Stability Assessment: Website services must be fully implemented on the new domain, followed by integrity tests and accessibility reviews.
- Permanent Redirect (HTTP 301): Traffic from the previous domain must be redirected to the new domain to retain audiences.
- Evaluate Technical and Security Dependencies: Organizations must review technical dependencies such as DNSSEC records and TLS/SSL certificates to prevent vulnerabilities.
- Official Notification to Audiences: Organizations must inform their audiences and business partners of the new address.
The Importance of Preventive Actions
The AFTA Center has stated that these actions must be fully implemented before any disruptions or foreign restrictions occur. Simply registering the .ir domain is not enough; organizations must complete the entire migration process and assess accessibility metrics.
At the end of this announcement, entities and organizations with critical infrastructure have been asked to report the progress and results of implementing these actions to the AFTA Center. These reports will help the AFTA Center assess the overall situation and advance cyber protection plans more cohesively.
