Seyed Abolfazl Mousavi-Pour, the head of Tehran's traffic police, announced in his recent press conference that traffic in Tehran decreased by 4% in October 2025 compared to October 2024. This traffic reduction has been highlighted as an important achievement in urban management and the city's public transport system.
Share of Public Transport in Urban Travel
Mousavi-Pour further referred to the share of public transport in urban travel, stating that this share is currently around 22%. This figure indicates the urgent need for improvement and development of the public transport fleet in Tehran. Given Tehran's high population and the increasing number of trips, this share requires enhancement and optimization.
Addition of New Fleet to the Public Transport System
According to Mousavi-Pour, several new fleets will be added to Tehran's public transport system in the next month or two. This action aims to improve traffic conditions and facilitate the daily travels of citizens. It is expected that with these changes, urban travel will become easier and faster, and traffic pressure on the streets will decrease.
The development of the public transport fleet not only helps reduce traffic and air pollution but also leads to an improvement in the quality of life for citizens. These changes, alongside other urban planning efforts, can contribute to the formation of a sustainable and efficient transport system.
Mousavi-Pour also emphasized the importance of citizen participation in improving the public transport situation, stating: "With the cooperation and participation of the people, we can achieve our goals in reducing traffic and improving public transport." This perspective reflects attention to the needs of citizens and their centrality in urban planning.
The results of these actions will become evident in the near future, and we hope that citizens will experience a more comfortable life with the increase in the public transport fleet and improved traffic conditions.
