Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, today (Friday) challenged the expansion of the European Union's anti-Russian sanctions, deeming it a sign of Brussels' weakness. According to her, these new sanctions, which include a number of individuals and entities, clearly demonstrate the incapacity and failure of the European Union's policies in dealing with Russia.
Sanctions and Their Consequences
Zakharova pointed out that sanctions only lead to increased tensions, emphasizing that this approach will not help resolve existing problems and tensions. She also noted that these actions not only do not harm Russia but can also inflict damages on European countries. Zakharova stated that the European Union should turn to dialogue and negotiation instead of imposing sanctions, saying: "History has shown that sanctions cannot achieve political goals and only lead to increased tensions."
Tensions in Yemen and Regional Threats
In another part of her statements, Zakharova referred to the critical situation in Yemen, considering it a serious threat to the security and stability of the region. She stated that the war in Yemen has led to a deep humanitarian crisis, adding: "These tensions not only affect the lives of the people in Yemen but also harm neighboring countries and the region." Zakharova called for the international community's attention to this crisis and efforts to resolve it, saying: "It is time for the world to focus on creating peace and stability in Yemen and other crisis-hit areas instead of sanctions and pressure."
These remarks by Zakharova come at a time when tensions in relations between Russia and Europe have significantly increased, and we witness new developments in this regard every day. The new sanctions imposed by the European Union have been enacted following political and military tensions in Ukraine and other areas, raising the question of whether this approach can lead to positive changes in international relations or not.
