Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, in a press conference referring to the living conditions of garbage collectors, announced measures to improve their situation. These workers, who play an important role in urban services, face serious financial problems due to the untimely payment of salaries and benefits. Zakani emphasized that this situation is no longer acceptable and requires fundamental changes.

Job Security for Garbage Collectors

In recent years, serious criticisms have been raised regarding the living conditions of garbage collectors and the delays in their salary payments. Zakani pointed out that in the past, the salaries of garbage collectors and green space workers were paid through contractors, saying: "This issue caused some contractors to fail to meet their obligations, creating problems for garbage collectors. Therefore, we decided to change this process."

Transfer of Salaries to the Municipality System

The mayor of Tehran stated that for about one or two months, the salaries of garbage collectors are being paid directly through the municipality, adding: "This change allows us to minimize issues such as non-payment of salaries and insurance. We aim for the salaries and benefits of green space workers and garbage collectors to be paid in the same manner as the salaries of municipal staff. In other words, their salaries will be paid simultaneously with the salaries of municipal personnel."

Zakani also referred to the establishment of a company under the supervision of the Waste Management Organization and announced: "This company, with a specified board of directors, will address the problems and complaints of garbage collectors and will strive to resolve all issues related to their salaries and insurance." These actions reflect the serious commitment of urban management to improve the working and living conditions of this hardworking group.

Response to Criticisms and Previous Issues

Despite existing criticisms and problems, the mayor of Tehran hopes that these changes will lead to an improvement in the economic and living conditions of garbage collectors. He stated that in the near future, other programs will also be implemented to increase salaries and benefits. Zakani emphasized: "These actions will not only help improve the financial situation of garbage collectors but will also enhance the quality of urban services."

Finally, Zakani said: "As urban management, we are committed to supporting garbage collectors and green space workers, and we are confident that by implementing these programs, effective steps will be taken to improve their quality of life." These changes can create new hope for garbage collectors and their families and demonstrate serious attention to the livelihoods of this hardworking group.
