Why is Women's Swearing More Controversial?

توسط تحریریهٔ خبرگزاری ایرانیان 1 دقیقه زمان مطالعه 0

Images of young women using profanity in one of the recent protests in India have triggered a wave of reactions. This issue has particularly resurfaced in political and social discussions following the controversial statements of Narendra Modi and the criticisms from Rahul Gandhi.

Why are the Reactions Different?

Historically, the use of insulting language by women has been judged differently due to cultural and social attitudes. In many societies, swearing by women is seen as a sign of disrespect and lack of emotional control, whereas for men, this behavior may be viewed as a sign of power or protest.

This difference in judgment may stem from stereotypes and social perceptions that are shaped by gender. As society seeks gender equality, the question arises whether the language and behavior of women should be judged in the same way as those of men.
