Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, announced that in continuation of Russia's attacks on critical infrastructure, the second largest bridge in the capital of Ukraine has also been targeted.
Damage from the Attack on the Northern Bridge
This attack, which occurred this morning, Saturday, October 3, damaged the road and high-voltage cables of the electric buses on the "Northern Bridge" and led to the blockage of the route. Mr. Klitschko wrote on Telegram: "Impact on the Northern Bridge. Rescue forces are being dispatched." He added: "Traffic on the bridge, from west to east, is currently blocked."

The "Southern Bridge," another main bridge in Kyiv, was repeatedly targeted by Russian drone attacks on Thursday and Friday (October 1 and 2). These attacks prompted the Kyiv Defense Council to hold an emergency meeting yesterday.
Concerns About the Future of Kyiv
Mr. Klitschko expressed concern that these attacks could lead to the "fragmentation of Kyiv." The mayor of Kyiv also warned that Moscow is targeting "critical infrastructure, logistics, residential areas" and other vital facilities, and the situation is "very dire." These two bridges connect the east and west of the Ukrainian capital across the Dnipro River, and their targeting signifies a new phase in Russia's strategy.
Attacks on the Southern Bridge on Thursday caused severe disruptions in traffic, halting the passage of the metro and vehicles over this bridge. Many residents of this city of approximately three million rely on the metro for transportation.
After the attack on the "Southern Bridge," metro passengers recounted how dust from the explosion entered the ventilation system of the cars.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, stated that Vladimir Putin has decided that there are "no more rules" in the attack on Ukraine. He told the Financial Times: "The Russians have failed to occupy Ukraine, so now they are resorting to widespread attacks and mass killings."
He added: "They want to destroy our bridges, data centers, the internet, mobile networks, hospitals, kindergartens, schools, universities, and everything. They want people to flee from their homes."
Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, claims that Russia's actions are a response to Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy facilities. Energy facilities and other infrastructures in Russia are under continuous drone attacks from Ukraine.
