The administration of Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has signaled its readiness for dialogue with Iran by announcing its willingness to meet with Iranian officials attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This initiative, raised by an American official, has increased hopes of finding a solution to the ongoing conflicts.
Details of the Possible Meeting
This informed source from the White House stated that Trump has told his advisors that he is eager to meet with the Iranian diplomatic delegation that has come to New York for the General Assembly, provided that "the conditions are right." This meeting could take place at various levels, including between Trump's close advisors and the Iranian side, although no official plans have been set for it so far.

Ambiguities on Both Sides
However, within the Trump administration, questions have arisen about the effectiveness of these discussions. White House advisors are assessing whether this meeting could assist Washington's efforts to exit military conflict or not. Additionally, there are ambiguities in U.S. decision-making circles regarding the trust and authority of the Iranian delegation for final decision-making.
Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, and Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, are present as Iran's diplomatic representatives at these meetings. In this context, previous reports have indicated that the Iranian delegation has full diplomatic authority, but it has also been emphasized that there is no plan for a direct meeting with American officials, and any potential agreement must be discussed through intermediaries.
Alongside these moves, two key foreign policy and security officials in the Trump administration have also expressed their readiness to engage with Iran. Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated that there is currently no plan for a meeting, but they are prepared for such an event, especially if a positive outcome is achieved in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Additionally, Mike Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, has expressed that Trump always keeps the doors of dialogue open and emphasized that the question should be asked of the Iranians themselves whether they are willing to sit at the negotiating table with the U.S. or not.
