The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions on Wednesday, November 4, against companies and individuals based in India and Turkey for collaborating with the Islamic Republic of Iran. These actions are in line with the Trump administration's plan called "Economic Isolation Operations," aimed at cutting Tehran's ability to sell oil and finance its war against the U.S. and Israel.
Sanctions and Their Consequences
These sanctions were announced one day after the Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections. In these elections, the Democratic Party of the United States successfully gained control of both houses of Congress, and voters expressed their dissatisfaction with the war against Iran and its impact on rising inflation.

Last week, the U.S. Department of the Treasury stated that its actions have severely weakened Iran's economy and brought the value of the national currency to its lowest historical levels. These sanctions specifically targeted a network involved in "extensive criminal" activities related to providing services to sanctioned vessels.
Details of the Network Managed by Sunil Kumar Sharma
This network was managed by Sunil Kumar Sharma and his wife Jaspreet Preeti Shahid. They, along with two other Indian citizens, managed two companies owned by them. Additionally, nine other entities and companies linked to Sharma were also included in the sanctions list.
These individuals falsely claimed to represent countries such as Guyana, Eswatini, and Laos and issued flags and certificates on behalf of these countries. The use of fake flags and fraudulent maritime certificates allows illegal vessels to evade international regulations and continue their operations.
Furthermore, the Turkish company Fugo Grand Services was also sanctioned for providing ground airport services to several Iranian airlines under sanctions. These airlines include Iran Airtour, Saha Airlines, Taban Airlines, and ATA Airlines.
Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, stated that the U.S. government will target any individual or entity that supports Tehran with its sanctions. These sanctions effectively block the assets of individuals and entities related to the U.S. and impose restrictions on their financial interactions.
Violating U.S. sanctions can lead to civil or criminal penalties for individuals and companies. Meanwhile, India has not yet commented on the new sanctions.
