The eighteenth BRICS summit in New Delhi represents the efforts of this bloc to become a true global power. Considering that BRICS includes large countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which together account for about 40 percent of the global economy, it was expected that this summit would become a turning point in the history of this group. However, the reality shows that this bloc has yet to succeed in transforming its material and political capacities into a cohesive power.

Identity Challenges and Internal Rivalries

One of the main challenges facing BRICS is the lack of a common identity. Member countries each have different interests and perspectives, which can lead to internal rivalries. For example, the historical tensions between China and India are one of the main obstacles to creating solidarity within this bloc. These tensions not only lead to political disagreements but can also impact the economic and security decisions of these countries.

Conflicting Interests and Global Crises

In addition, BRICS faces global crises that create conflicting security interests. One of these crises is the war between Iran and the United States, which directly affects the economic and security policies of member countries. In such circumstances, BRICS countries cannot easily reach a common agreement, which hinders their ability to become a unified power on the global stage.

Although BRICS is considered a significant economic power, the lack of internal solidarity and the ability to manage crises has placed this bloc in a difficult position. It seems that to become a true power, BRICS needs closer cooperation and the establishment of a common strategy that can manage internal differences while also addressing the common interests of its members.
