The Government Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran declared a public mourning across the country on Wednesday, October 1, 1405, following the passing of Ayatollah Seyyed Mousa Shabiri Zanjani, one of the prominent religious authorities. This decision was made in respect for the high status and influence of this revered scholar. The President and other members of the Government Council will also participate in mourning for this esteemed figure during this time.
Life and Activities of Ayatollah Seyyed Mousa Shabiri Zanjani
Ayatollah Seyyed Mousa Shabiri Zanjani (born 1306 SH) was one of the prominent figures of the Qom seminary and a teacher of advanced jurisprudence and principles. After the passing of Mohammad Ali Araki, he was introduced as one of the seven qualified jurists for religious authority. Ayatollah Shabiri Zanjani studied religious sciences in Qom and Najaf and attended the classes of great scholars such as Seyyed Hossein Tabatabai Borujerdi, Seyyed Abol Qasem Khoei, and Seyyed Mohammad Haqiq Damad.

The Body of Ayatollah Shabiri Zanjani and the Memorial Ceremony
The noble soul of Ayatollah Shabiri Zanjani joined the higher realms on the morning of Tuesday, September 30. Following this loss, a memorial gathering for him will be held by the Supreme Leader (may God protect him) on Wednesday after the Maghrib and Isha prayers at the holy shrine of Hazrat Fatemeh Masumeh (peace be upon her). His pure body will also be carried today, Wednesday, from Jihad Square, Imam Khomeini (RA) High School Mosque towards the holy shrine of Hazrat Fatemeh Masumeh (SA).
This public mourning is an opportunity for the people of Iran to express their respect for one of the greatest religious authorities of their time by recalling the services and efforts of Ayatollah Shabiri Zanjani. He held a special place in the hearts of the people with his religious and jurisprudential teachings and always played a role in promoting religion and ethics.
