Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, stated in his recent meeting with African media editors that the Donald Trump administration has a clear willingness and readiness to engage in dialogue with Russia. These remarks come at a time when tensions between Moscow and Washington have significantly increased, and U.S. military support for Ukraine continues.

Criticism of European Policies

In this meeting, Lavrov sharply criticized the policies of European countries regarding the Ukraine conflict, accusing them of being unconstructive. He noted that Europeans have refrained from contacting Russia and are ignoring the root causes of the crisis. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has kept the doors of diplomacy open and is seeking to expand interactions with Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Minister referred to Western efforts to sabotage the 2025 meeting between the Presidents of Russia and the United States in Alaska and emphasized that Europeans are attempting to use a potential cessation of hostilities as an opportunity to replenish Ukraine's weapon stocks. He also mentioned the continuation of Russia's special military operations during the negotiations, stating that these operations will not cease.

Trade Agreements with the U.S.

In another part of his remarks, Lavrov addressed the issue of the fuel supply agreement between the two countries, reminding that the contract for the supply of diesel from Russia to the U.S. is a purely commercial and pragmatic agreement without any political conditions or attachments. This reflects Moscow's desire to maintain economic relations with Washington while continuing political tensions.

Ultimately, Lavrov emphasized that under the current circumstances, diplomacy and negotiations could be the only possible solution to reduce tensions and resolve existing crises. This is while, despite all efforts and desires for dialogue, the realities on the ground and military factors continue to overshadow the negotiation process.
