Saudi Arabia reported the destruction of a ballistic missile fired by Houthi militants from Yemen. This attack occurred as tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran have sharply increased, and Houthi attacks on various regions of Saudi Arabia have heightened security concerns.
Impact of Houthi Attacks on Regional Security
In recent days, Houthi attacks on Riyadh International Airport have resulted in dozens of casualties. In the latest attack, at least 13 people were killed and over 300 injured. These deadly attacks have raised growing concerns about the potential escalation of military conflicts in the region. Following these attacks, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States has also warned all airlines and urged them to consider necessary security precautions.

Diplomatic Talks to Reduce Tensions
Faisal bin Farhan, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, has discussed the escalation of tensions and diplomatic efforts to address them in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. Araghchi has stated that Tehran is ready to act as a mediator between Riyadh and the Houthis and to work towards a political solution for the Yemen crisis. This is the first direct contact between the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic following the escalation of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The military coalition supporting the Yemeni government, led by Saudi Arabia, has emphasized the need to end these attacks while responding to Houthi assaults. The "R4" group, which includes four key regional countries: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, has condemned these attacks and called for an immediate and unconditional halt to Houthi assaults. This group has reaffirmed its support for Saudi actions to counter these attacks, deeming them a threat to peace and security in the region.
Despite the escalation of military and diplomatic tensions, efforts to find a political solution continue. In this context, Araghchi has clearly stated that Iran is ready to act as a mediator between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, a move that could help reduce the ongoing tensions.
