Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, today (Friday) made controversial statements regarding the ineffectiveness of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and said that attacks on nuclear facilities have become routine due to the lack of condemnation from member countries of this agency and its weak leadership.
The Role of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Global Security
The International Atomic Energy Agency, as the overseeing body for the nuclear programs of various countries, has a crucial responsibility in maintaining global security and preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. However, Ulyanov criticized the performance of this agency, stating that the lack of a serious and effective response to attacks on nuclear facilities indicates the agency's ineffectiveness in fulfilling its duties. According to him, this situation has allowed hostile countries to easily attack each other's nuclear facilities, leading to a serious atmosphere of insecurity on an international level.

Global Consequences of the Agency's Ineffectiveness
Ulyanov also addressed various aspects of this situation, stating that different countries are no longer concerned about the consequences of such actions due to the lack of a strong response from the agency. This leads to increased tensions and distrust among countries and could result in a serious crisis in the field of nuclear security. For example, recent attacks on nuclear facilities in various regions demonstrate that countries are taking advantage of the agency's lack of support and are easily carrying out attacks.
The Russian representative emphasized that member countries of the agency must fulfill their responsibilities regarding nuclear security, stating that this agency cannot merely be an observer and must take a stand against such attacks. He also called for a comprehensive program to review the agency's performance and strengthen its role as an effective international body.
It seems that Ulyanov's statements are not only a criticism of the International Atomic Energy Agency but also an attempt to draw the global community's attention to the necessity of reforms within this agency. In this context, some analysts believe that if the agency fails to respond to these challenges, it may lose its credibility and role on the international stage, which could have dangerous consequences for global security.
