Republicans have expressed their anger towards Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, due to the unexpected results of the recent midterm elections. In Republican strongholds like Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina, Democratic victories led many members of the Republican Party to point fingers at Trump and hold him responsible for these losses.

Dissatisfaction with Trump's Political Legacy

Bill Miller, a prominent Republican lobbyist in Texas, stated bluntly: "It's his fault. It's no one else's fault. This is a complete and utter rejection of President Trump. This is a total disaster." He also noted that no one expected things to go this way.

It was expected that Republicans would lose control of the House of Representatives, but unexpected defeats in Republican states indicated a deep dissatisfaction among voters with Trump's policies. Greg Papan, a Republican strategist, pointed out that "this was just one mistake after another" and in various states, people were not pleased with Trump's policies.

Trump's Role in Public Dissatisfaction

Public dissatisfaction with Trump, particularly due to economic issues, the war with Iran, and his administration's immigration policies, led to a "perfect storm." One White House ally stated that "there is palpable frustration and dissatisfaction that it has come to this" and much of this dissatisfaction was directed at Trump.

The recent election results were of great importance for Trump and the Republicans. If the President's party had performed better, they could have moved towards the 2028 elections with more motivation. But now Trump will face a Democratic majority in Congress that may initiate investigations into his administration's performance and halt his plans.

While some party members are looking for justifications for the losses, others point out that many Republican candidates in key states ran weak campaigns. For example, one Republican activist in Texas said: "Ken Paxton ran the worst Senate campaign in the entire country."

In response to the election results, Trump wrote in a message: "My name was not on the ballot, and if it had been, we would have won decisively!" He also told the media that he was "a little surprised" by the results but emphasized that the President's party usually performs poorly in midterm elections.

History has shown that since 1934, the party in the White House has only increased its number of seats in three midterm elections. Although the recent achievements of the Democrats in 2026 were not a historic record, the party was able to gain many seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

This election has created an uncertain future for Republicans and may force them to think about their future after Trump. Given the intra-party pressures and public dissatisfaction, it remains to be seen whether Republicans will be able to achieve the necessary unity and cohesion for future elections.
