Qatar and France strongly condemned Iran's military attacks on U.S. military bases in Western Asia in a joint statement. This statement was issued following French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Qatar on Wednesday and refers to serious violations of international law.
Condemnation of Iran's Military Operations
The statement emphasizes that Iran's attacks not only negatively impact regional security but also exacerbate existing tensions in these areas. The two countries supported diplomatic efforts to counter Iran's threats and are seeking diplomatic solutions.
Freedom of Navigation and Regional Tensions
Qatar and France also stressed the necessity of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stated that this freedom must be ensured without any restrictions. This issue is significant as the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes for the transportation of oil and other goods, and any disruption in this route could have widespread economic and political repercussions.
Furthermore, the two countries referred to the existing challenges in the regional situation in their statement and declared that diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and stabilize the situation must continue. They also reiterated their opposition to any annexation of the West Bank by the Israeli regime and called for an end to Israel's settlement policies and the violence of settlers.
Qatar and France emphasized the need for all parties to fulfill their commitments regarding Gaza and called for Israel's withdrawal from the region and the provision of humanitarian aid to its residents. This request comes at a time when the humanitarian situation in Gaza is critically dire and there is an urgent need for assistance.
In addition, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Lebanon's stability and sovereignty and stated that the end of UNIFIL's (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) mission should not lead to a security vacuum in the country.
This statement reflects Qatar and France's efforts to create stability and security in the region and address existing challenges. While Iran remains a key player in these equations, there are concerns regarding this country's military actions that could impact the peace and security process in Western Asia.
