Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, is currently in the spotlight. Thomas Massie, a Republican member of Congress, has seriously called for his resignation following the recent defeats of the Republican Party in the midterm elections, and has announced that if Hegseth does not step down, he will initiate the impeachment process against him.

Thomas Massie's Message on Social Media X

Massie explicitly stated in a message on social media X: "The only condition under which I will not reintroduce impeachment articles is Hegseth's resignation." He also emphasized in an interview with CNN that he intends to initiate the voting process regarding the impeachment of the Secretary of Defense when Congress returns to session next week. Several Republican sources have also told CNN that they expect this measure to pass.

Criticism of the Trump Administration

This Republican representative has sharply criticized the performance of the Trump administration in response to his party's electoral defeat, stating: "You cannot mismanage an election this badly and think that just one issue was responsible for it. If they had simply stopped blindly following Donald Trump (the President of the United States), this defeat would have been entirely preventable."

Meanwhile, sources close to the White House have reported that Trump has warned his aides that Hegseth must resist efforts for impeachment and any investigations into his decisions. On Wednesday, in response to rumors about the possible dismissal of the Secretary of Defense, he told reporters that Hegseth is "doing a very good job" and that he sees no need for a change in this position.

Pentagon's Response to Impeachment Efforts

John Parnell, the senior Pentagon spokesperson, also reacted to the congressional representatives' efforts to impeach the Secretary of Defense, emphasizing that Hegseth "will not back down or be intimidated by politicians seeking partisan advantages." He also added: "Secretary Hegseth is 100% committed to leading the Department of Defense until the end of Trump's presidency."

As tensions in Congress have increased, J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, recently stated that one of the reasons for the Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections was the Iran war. These comments reflect the complexities and political challenges within the Republican Party, which seems to be divided over Hegseth's fate and their own future in Congress.
