North Korea launched several ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan early this morning. This action took place at 9:20 AM local time (00:20 GMT) from the Pyongyang area, and the missiles traveled a distance of over 900 kilometers.
Increased tensions on the Korean Peninsula
The Japanese Ministry of Defense also separately confirmed the launch of at least one ballistic missile. According to reports, these projectiles fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, and by 10 AM local time, no damage to Japanese vessels had been reported.

Tensions between the two Koreas have escalated since late September this year. At that time, two mines exploded in the South Korean-controlled area of the demilitarized zone between the two countries, injuring three South Korean soldiers. A joint investigation between Seoul and the United Nations Command concluded that North Korea had planted these mines over a year ago. Pyongyang vehemently denied this claim.
A shift in North Korea's military programs
Following the mine explosion incident, Pyongyang tested a ballistic missile that, according to officials from the country, is equipped with artificial intelligence. Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, stated that this missile has the capability to change its flight trajectory at low altitudes and incorporates artificial intelligence.
In response to these threats, Seoul announced a few days later the successful test of a hypersonic missile. This domestically produced missile ascends to the upper layers of the atmosphere and then glides towards its targets. The South Korean presidential office stated that this device provides a new deterrent capability for targeting key objectives in the operational environment of the Korean Peninsula.
These developments indicate an escalating arms race in the region and serious security concerns for neighboring countries. Given the history of military tensions in this area, this missile launch could lead to further crises and unrest.
