Mearsheimer, a prominent political science professor at the University of Chicago, believes that the Iranians will not withdraw from the battlefield under any circumstances and will fight to the last man. He also stated that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, will ultimately be forced to reach an agreement with Iran to end these conflicts.

The Current Situation of the War in the Middle East

Mearsheimer stated that the U.S. has no effective military options against Iran and the Houthis of Yemen. This situation not only contributes to the prolongation of the war but also exacerbates the destruction of economic infrastructure in the region. He emphasized that as this war continues, the economic pressure on the people of Iran and the surrounding countries will increase day by day.

Economic Consequences of the War

Mearsheimer warned that the economic pressure resulting from the war in the Middle East could lead to a widespread global recession and even increase the likelihood of a major economic crisis. This university professor noted that the continuation of this trend, especially for ordinary people, will have irreparable consequences. In this situation, Trump must consider reaching an agreement with Iran to bring an end to this war.

Mearsheimer further stated that history has shown that wars rarely end in favor of one side, and usually, the parties involved reach agreements to reduce tensions and end conflicts. In his view, given the current situation, the Iranians are steadfast in their positions and show no signs of surrendering.

According to Mearsheimer, the U.S. should turn to diplomacy and dialogue instead of relying on military options. He emphasized that only through negotiations can sustainable solutions be achieved and further disasters be prevented. This perspective comes at a time when political and social discourses within Iran, as well as internationally, are heavily influenced by the developments of the war and economic pressures.
