Massoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, emphasized during a meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, on the sidelines of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons. In this meeting, while referring to the unjust sanctions imposed by the United States, he addressed the necessity of expanding economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between Iran and Georgia.

The Necessity of Expanding Economic and Cultural Relations

Pezeshkian expressed his willingness to expand cooperation, stating that for this purpose, there is a need to develop an operational plan with a specific timeline. He emphasized that to strengthen relations between the two countries, we must act operationally and reach common points in the fields of economy and tourism with the cooperation of foreign ministers and diplomatic agencies.

The President of Iran also referred to the recent U.S. sanctions, deeming them inhumane and unjustifiable. He stated that these sanctions are imposed outside of human frameworks, noting: "We have always been ready for dialogue; they think they can make us surrender, but we will not succumb to pressure."

Georgia's Positions Regarding Neighbors

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, also emphasized his country's clear positions regarding neighboring countries during this meeting. He said: "Our positions regarding neighboring countries have been clear, and we reject any foreign intervention in the affairs of countries."

Kobakhidze also highlighted the cultural and geographical commonalities between the two countries and expressed hope that through close cooperation, they could reach common agreements in various fields. He stated: "Our principles are friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and we hope that we can reach common viewpoints in the fields of economy and tourism with the cooperation of the foreign ministers and diplomatic agencies of both sides."

These discussions come at a time when Iran is seeking to strengthen its relations with its neighbors and reduce the negative impacts of sanctions on its economy and society. This approach can be seen as a strategy to counter external pressures and create stability in the region.
