A heartbreaking massacre occurred in the remote village of "Binari" in Taraba State, Nigeria, where armed attackers on motorcycles killed at least 20 people in a bloody assault after Friday prayers.
Panic and Flight of the People
The attackers opened fire on the residents immediately after the Friday prayers, causing panic among the people. Many residents fled to bush-covered areas and surrounding lands to save their lives. "Isyaku Musa," one of the villagers, described the incident: "People were running in different directions to escape. No one knew where was safe and where to take refuge."

After the attackers retreated, at least 20 bodies were found at the scene. "Saido Nuhu," another villager, reported that several other residents are still missing, and there is no information about their fate.
Victim Statistics and the Fate of the Missing
Police officials announced by Friday evening that the bodies of 10 victims had been found; a figure that is clearly lower than the number reported by survivors and villagers. "Malamu Abubakar Sifullahi," one of the local leaders, stated that the attackers entered the village in a group of about 50 motorcycles, with two armed individuals on each motorcycle.
Sifullahi added: "They looted the shops and took cash, food supplies, and other necessities. They also stole the motorcycles that people had abandoned while fleeing the attack."
Taraba State, located in central Nigeria, has faced an increase in violence from criminal networks known as "armed bandits" in recent months. Amnesty International in Nigeria criticized the performance of the security agencies in the state, stating that the authorities have left rural communities in northern Nigeria vulnerable to armed groups that operate without fear of punishment.
This human rights organization emphasized in a message on social media: "The ongoing failure of officials to prosecute suspects of these attacks has clearly emboldened them and strengthened their sense of impunity."
